It seems like there’s regularly a game of the week/month that everyone is excited about and playing. My friends lists in Raptr, Steam, and Xbox will all show people playing the same title.

Usually when this happens, even if it’s a game I’ve not had any previous interest in, I’ll start to get interested or curious and often end up getting it. This sometimes turns out well, Skyrim, and sometimes turns out poorly, Deus Ex: Human Revolution (because I’ll bring it up any chance I get, I guess). Most recently, seeing how much fun a few MMO focused friends who were are in varying stages of MMO burnout were having playing Tera, got me to buy the game and give it a shot despite my apathy-bordering-on-dislike for the art style.

The Secret World is another game that I’ve had zero interest in, both because of the setting and the fact that I’ve never Funcom launch a game well. This weekend was apparently the first beta test after the NDA dropped because I started seeing a lot of Twitter messages and blog posts about it. Oddly though, it’s had zero impact on my interest level, so I think I’m safe (except I probably just Murphied myself).

The other up and coming game is Diablo 3. I barely played the original game and never bothered with the sequel. For whatever reason I was just never hooked on it, in the mid 9o’s I was much more interested in the Age of Empires series. Happily, despite nearly everyone who plays games that I know planning to play this, I’ve still had zero interest.

I do feel a little bit left out, but really it’s a blessing. I’m neck deep in games I already own or pay subscriptions for that I should be playing instead.

So anyone else skipping either of these titles?

Odd man out.

Would that be the right spot to plug my own post on the subject: Welcome to Kingsmouth Like you, I didn’t hear of the game up until 3 weeks ago. However, I couldn’t resist all the tweets before the beta and grabbed a beta key on Friday morning. I kinda like the game, but I have my doubts I will subscribe. I don’t like horror themes.

From everything I’ve hear from people who played the beta, I’m very glad I wasn’t swayed by the hype. Sounds like it’s in a pretty rough state still.

I might get Diablo 3 when its on sale on a few months, but probably won’t pay $60 for it. And secret world holds zero interest for me. I was tempted by tera for a moment, but passed on it for SWTOR, which I understand all the mmo bloggers have stopped playing, but it sounds fun to me and I got it on sale a week or so ago.

You’re not alone, play by the beat of your own 8-bit drummer 🙂

Getting Diablo 3 not interested in another Funcom Game. Age of Conan was suppose to be great and it just failed. I have the same bad vibe about TSW.

I’ve no interest in TSW, and the only reason I’d even consider Diablo 3 is because everyone else I know is playing. I hated Diablo 1, thought Diablo 2 was “okay,” and played the open beta weekend of Diablo 3 and was left feeling like it’s a hyper-outdated game. It looks okay, it plays just the way I remember, but maaaan was I bored.

I agree with you though Brian, I have enough right now.

I really should just stack up all my unplayed games and take a picture to keep on my phone, so anytime I’m tempted to buy something I can just look at it and save myself some money. That’s the only downside to Steam games, I guess, no clutter.

I’ll be skipping Diablo 3 (until it goes on serious sale), mostly because I got marginal enjoyment out of the second installment but also because I want to see how the whole thing plays out (especially the RMT auctions). Also, I fired up Titan Quest this weekend and found that it offered everything I’ve been looking for on that front – the D3 open beta weekend was fun, but it didn’t hook me enough to justify paying full price.

I pre-ordered TSW because I like the modern day setting, conspiracy theory aspects of the lore, and the three factions. I’m also very curious to see how the mechanics play out in a live environment. But I won’t be playing at launch – I’d rather not put up with (another) Funcom debacle. I’ll wait for the smoke to clear…

The RMT thing is going to be interesting, especially when governments figure out that there’s an opportunity for taxation.

Don’t worry, I’ll play enough Diablo III to make up for all of you! Fools I say, Diablo III will rule the world!!!

We’re in one of those times of the year again when there are too many games to play. Skipping a few to focus on what you want to play can never be a bad thing. Just make sure you write about what you are enjoying!

Not that I’ll be able to read it for the next few days. I’ll be too busy with Diablo 3, I suspect.
