Controversies aside, I was excited to get my copy of the Limited Edition box for Elemental: War of Magic today. I’d already gotten my download code, so I’ve been playing, but I’ve been really looking forward to checking out the goodies that came with the physical copy. I’m a suckers for maps, so the inclusion of a nice canvas map was the main reason why I got it, and I’m extremely happy with the quality.

Quick update on the drama from last week, looks like the current 1.06 patch has corrected most of the issues that PC Gamer had.

You can see the pics here or in the slide-show below.

Very cool, I’m not as interested in strategy games as I used to be and I hadn’t even heard of Elemental until I read about the controversy linked from your site. Enjoy it, cloth map or not, you must really be into it if you got a retail box, big fan of digital distribution that you are 😛

I was pretty tempted by the map and book, but it was an easy decision since it came with a code to download the game electronically. Best of both worlds.

They must really have hit an all-time low regarding buggedness if PC Gamer issues such a warning.

It’s been an odd situation. Retailers broke the street date, so Stardock released an electronic version that was (I think) pre-retail electronically so people who’d preordered didn’t get screwed. There were some big stability issues with that, per the PC Gamer article, but Stardock has released several patches. The current version is 1.06, which I played last night and had no issues with, except for alt-tabbing.

The PC Gamer article was odd to me, and I wonder how much of that was a personal issue between Francis and Wardell who both frequent the Quarter to Three forums. Especially since that’s where the infamous quote came from.

Of the few people I chat with who own it, I’ve not heard any complaints, it’s all been media stuff.

    Hi Brian,

Very nice images (even with the flash on 🙂
Been wondering if I should get the collectors edition as it works out as a full days work to pay for it (£60).
After seeing your images I think I’ll go for it, just hope it’s worth it…

    Dave.
