Today marks the one year anniversary of the site. It all started with rants about DRM and the RIAA. Even though I’m not in Syp’s league for productivity, I have been happy that I’ve stayed with the site. I’m at 50 articles published (including this one) and yes I did have to scramble a bit this week to hit that number.
When I started out last October I had 24 hits for the month. January saw my first real jump with 62 hits and the blog stayed in that neighborhood until April when it jumped to 92. Traffic jumped again in May to 132 and peaked in August at 142 with September on track for the 140+ range as well. So right now I’m averaging 4-5 hits per day. Not hugely popular, but not bad considering my sporadic posting rate.
So huge thanks to those of you who stop by regularly to see if I’ve gotten off my lazy butt and written anything new, and an extra huge thanks to those who’ve left comments. While I don’t write here for anyone but myself, it’s always nice to get feedback and encouragement.
My goals for the blog for the next year are to post more regularly and more often. This anniversary kind of snuck up on me and I did have to push a bit to hit the 50 post number. So for this next blog year, I’m planning to double my output and hit the 150 post mark by this time next year. So now that its on the internet, maybe I’ll have more motivation to make it happen.
Congrats! Please continue posting as usual. Nothing worse than re-posting what other blogs already spammed all over the net just because one feels the need to post more regularly.
Maybe you should promote Mount & Blade on your blog. It is really a cool game that deserves a bigger audience. As you already noticed, I am making propaganda for the game. It is something fresh and new, and despite all cries for innovation people like to stick to stuff they know and are biased against new ideas. I often think people just do not get into the game because they expect something else somehow.
Congrats! Mine kind of crept up on me, as birthdays do — a month before and you think omg omg my birthday’s coming up (or my blog’s), and then you sort of forget about it till it’s suddenly there.
As others will tell you, pre-writing posts and scheduling them for publication later can be a great tool. I don’t use it often, because I like the spontaneity of rambling about… whatever, first thing in the morning, but for longer posts or stuff I really care about (and therefore want to polish more) it really helps.
As for readers… numbers only matter if you care about them. 😀
@Ysh
I do like to ramble (even made it a category). I do have a few posts that I write before hand, but usually I just sit down and bang one out when the mood strikes me.
I go back and forth on reader numbers. Sometimes I care and sometimes I don’t. One thing I have noticed is that using Twitter has definitely caused a bump.
@Longasc – If/when I get back to playing Mount & Blade some more I’ll bring it up on the blog. I completely agree that it deserves a bigger audience. Maybe the Warband expansion will give the game a second wind.
Congrats! I have been thinking about getting Mount & Blade for awhile, just haven’t gotten around to it. I did see a Warband trailer and it looked pretty cool.
Congratulations on the blog anniversary. They do tend to sneak up on us. Of course your blog won’t give you the cold shoulder if you forget to buy it flowers.
@Jaye – I would go grab it on Steam the next time you think about it $30 for a great game, riding down a swordsman with a lance is very fun.
@Anjin – Thanks. Worse is when you get a gift that you think is great but turns out not to be romantic enough. Not that I’m speaking from experience.

Congratulations on your anniversary! Sorry I didn’t say so sooner.
Thanks!
Congratulations! Looking forward to all the posts between now and your second anniversary!
Grats man 🙂
Happy Blogday. What do you get the person with everything?
Nothing. 🙂
Thanks guys.
Rivs – I’m sure I could find a couple of things on my Amazon wishlist if you really feel it’s necessary to get me a present. Of course, I’d need to make sure I posted about it to comply with the new FTC standards. 🙂
Grats on your blog growing old. Now I can finally comment I can add my 2 cents. Chaaaa ching. Put that in the bank.
